This unique spice blend was created as part of a quick recipe to make homemade pizza sauce. With great results from the spontaneous concoction, the balanced blend of spices was recorded and refined.
It all started one evening when I was at home making a pizza dinner. I have been making homemade pizzas from scratch for the past 15 years. The ovens were on at 550F degrees and it was about 10 minutes before we were going to cook the pizza when I went to the fridge to get some leftover sauce from the previous week to realize that I did not have any pizza sauce ready to go. So I threw together a quick cold sauce recipe. I started throwing in different spices and was going to adjust the sauce as needed. I tasted the sauce and suddenly realized that I was on to something. I immediately grabbed a pen and recalled what I used and the quantities. I made another batch and was able to duplicate it. Now I had 7 cups of pizza sauce. I had my kids try the sauce and they all loved it! Even the 2 that have “sophisticated pallets” (picky eaters). I used it on the pizzas and the sauce made an amazing pizza!!! From that point on I started making pre-measured bags of our signature pizza sauce spice blend to use whenever we made pizza. It saved me over an hour of time and I just had the kids make the sauce.
The spices are perfectly portioned to work with your favorite 28 ounce can of crushed tomatoes. Just mix the packet and the tomatoes together and you have a perfect homemade gourmet pizza sauce. That’s it and only takes 30 seconds. It has saved me tons of time and is super convenient.
